Hi I’m Allison Mann and I’ve been swimming with my club team for over 11 years. I joined the same team and high school team as both my mom and sister. I fell in love with swim when I was 7. I’m a super competitive swimmer and I always have a goal to achieve great things. I give 110% effort at practice to reach those goals and I value whatever advice my coaches grant me. My dad is my biggest supporter who encourages me to reach the goals I set for myself.
Recently, as of last year, I had a shoulder injury due to overtraining. It started as a result of increased shoulder flexibility. This led me to develop a lack of muscle tissue around my left shoulder which created an over dependency on the surrounding tendons and ligaments. After months of throbbing pain I experienced while swimming, we found my pt that helped figure out what I needed, which was growing the small muscles around my shoulder. Almost a year later I was swimming with little to no pain. During this time, I didn’t stop training and persevered towards my swimming goals through a slightly different approach. I kicked many 2 hour long practices and as a result kicking became my new strength. Getting that advantage led me through an amazing high school and long course season in my 50 and 100 free. I achieved more than my coaches and team ever thought I could despite having a faulty shoulder. My injury was a blessing in disguise and I don’t think I’d have the same mindset as I do today had it not occurred. I can’t wait to keep training now that I’m fully healthy and work harder to achieve the goals I know I can reach.
Also on a separate note that addresses school; I love to challenge myself with harder classes. I’d love to find a school with a great team that can push me to reaching my academic goals as well. Thank you for your careful consideration.
