Hello! My name is Lenya Ryan. I'm a rising senior at Mount Pleasant High School located in Wilmington, Delaware. I have been swimming competitively in the Middle-Atlantic region since I was 6 years old. In 2010-2016, I trained for Delaware Swim Team with the Junior National Group coached by Doug Cooper. As I gained more experience, in 2017, I advanced to the Elite group coached by Lindsay Taggart and Mark Nelson in the Wilmington Aquatic Club. I have endured achievements and successes throughout my swim years that have allowed me to fully commit my mindset to prioritize my swim career. During my high school swimming career, I have focused on 200 IM, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 100 breaststroke. These specific races have been my main focal point, especially at the Delaware High School State Championships. I believe that my ability to succeed and excel in the IM and other stroke events will contribute great success to my college swimming career. In January of 2021, my family and I tested positive for the Coronavirus. This was an immediate setback on my swim career as I wasn't able to train for two weeks. The setback pushed myself not only mentally, but physically, to become a stronger and courageous human being. Once I felt healthier to train again, my work ethic improved tremendously mentally, as I realized that my swim career is what's most important to me. This proved to myself that any time off from training can cause a negative affect, therefore, I have been solely focused on wanting to gain greater successes and achievements, especially for the years to follow in my life.
