Personal Statement

During the year 2020, my swim club was not able to practice in a pool, so we trained in open water.  The club hosted an eight mile straight swim challenge across Lake Ontario, which I participated in.  I was able to finish fourth out of 17 swimmers, and it has been my biggest accomplishment concerning swimming.

I started swimming competitively when I was 11 years old and still swim year round.  I like to be challenged in the pool.  Dry land and cross training is also important to me.

I'm looking for a college swim team with great dynamics and consistent coaching.  During my years of club swimming I've had over ten coaches at the senior level and I've had a different head coach each year of varsity swimming.  I've been fortunate that they've all been great coaches and taught me a lot, however, I'm looking for consistency so I can focus on technique moving forward.

Fulton High School does not have a girls varsity swim team, however, girls are allowed to swim boys varsity and Fulton still keeps girls records.

  1. My freshman year of high school I swam boys varsity, and during boys sectionals I swam the backstroke leg of an all girls 200 medley relay team and posted a 29.68.  The relay team broke the school record.   I also took 8th place in the 100 back with a 1:04.45 and broke the girls school record.
  2. My sophomore year Fulton girls merged with Oswego and I had the opportunity to swim girls varsity where I posted a personal best in the 200 IM.
  3. My junior year, due to COVID, I swam boys varsity.  Despite having a short season with no championships, I saw big drops in my racing times and broke the 200 IM school record with a 2:20.68 and my own 100 backstroke record with a 1:01.90.   My back spilt in the 200 medley relay was a 29.19.  My goal for my senior year is to break the 100 fly record (1:04.28),  and to go under a minute in my 100 backstroke.
  4. My senior year I decided to swim boys varsity.  I broke the 100 fly record in a dual meet and then broke it again in an invitational.  My goal is to go under a minute in the 100 fly.  My team swam a 200 free relay with all girls and the four of us set a new 200 free relay record (I anchored the relay with a 25.24 split).

Outside of the pool I enjoy drawing and working on my digital art.  Some of my work has been featured in art shows and I've sold some of my work. Spring 2020, I had a ceramic dragon win best of show in our local art show (it was the first time a ceramic piece ever won best of show).  My pipe cleaner art also won first place in the 3D art section.  In 2018 and 2019 I collaborated with two of my Club team mates to design the program cover for our home swim meet.  At age 15 I got my life guarding certification and my first guard opportunity was volunteering for an elementary school triathlon.  I also worked as a guard during the summer at a local pool.

I give back to my community by volunteering to ring the bell for the Red Cross during the holiday season,  helping to supervise kids making projects for Harborfest (a local festival),  and assisting with young children at the library to help with a indoor golf event.  I've also volunteered to work in various capacities at many swim meets.

When I go to college I want to major in digital art and animation.  I look forward to swimming in college.
