Carolyn Zedack '22 Recruiting Profile

I started swimming competitively at the age of five and have always loved being around the pool. I swim for the Mexico Tiger Sharks and have been on my school's varsity team since seventh grade. I was on the first women's relay team that my school sent to the NYS championships, in 2019. Training has been difficult recently because of COVID, but I haven't stopped working to stay in shape for our next season that has been moved to March. 

Over the summer, I swam in a pond and  in Lake Ontario because pools in my area were closed. At first it was incredibly difficult to adjust to the ever changing conditions outside, but it helped me learn how to adapt quickly to different swimming environments- which is crucial when competing. When I learned that my varsity season had been moved I was disappointed, but decided it was a good opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try a new sport. I choose cross-country because I thought it would be similar to track, but it turned out to be a lot harder than I expected. I even thought about quitting after the first practice. Instead, I stuck with it and received the title of captain and by the end of the season I was one of the top runners in my county. Whenever I set out to do something, I always give it my all and never give up no matter how difficult it could be.
