Thank you for the opportunity to share a little bit about myself.
I am the youngest of three children, but my sisters are a lot older so I pretty much grew up as an only child. I have two amazing parents that helped me become the person I am today. I started swimming when I was eight years old. I loved being in the water so much that my parents gave me swim lessons and I joined the neighborhood team. I was afraid to put my head under the water so my swim teacher, Eric Knight, threw me in the deep end of the pool and cured me of that. I’ve been swimming competitively ever since. I especially like swimming for my high school team. My freshman year, we won the state title and I was selected “rookie of the year”. I felt like it was a great accomplishment and that I contributed to the team winning the state title.
I am an A, B honor roll student in my high school and I work hard to maintain my grades. I love biology and computer science and hope to get a degree in Computer Science and a masters in Marine Biology. When I have spare time from swimming, the first thing I like to do is volunteer at Shining Hope Farms. This is a therapeutic barn for disabled children. I love to walk the children, especially Lucy, who couldn’t communicate at first, but I see her getting better. I also clean the stalls and brush the horses and do whatever needs to be done. I also belong to the Young Elites which is a leadership program that prepares young women to be leaders in life. As a group we help out in our community with various volunteer projects.
Swimming has given me self confidence and a strong work ethic. I love being part of a team and helping the team win.
