My name is Makenna Monday. I am a dedicated student-athlete at Cedarburg High School in Wisconsin (3-year varsity letter winner through junior year). I swim club with Ozaukee Aquatics, which has become a second family for me!
I understand the importance of the academic portion of a student-athlete, which is why I often discuss the academic portion of my talents first. Nearly all of us will make a post-graduate living outside of swimming. However, it is very notable that I find my day is not complete without time in the pool and with teammates. The combination of swimming, work and school activities has enhanced my academics by providing structure to my daily schedule. I am one of the few in my club or HS team that looks forward to the 5am practices to continue improving, followed by a full day of school, working as a swim instructor and lifeguard, then dryland and more hours in the pool for evening practice. I leverage the downtime between these activities to hit the books, leading my way to a 4.25 GPA.
I am looking for a collegiate experience that will elevate and concentrate on the student-athlete balance. With my aspirations of entering post-graduate dental school, I look forward to a challenging academic institution to prepare me for dental school and life as an orthodontist.
I believe finding a supportive and engaged swimming coach/staff and teammates will help hold me accountable, driving me as a well-rounded person and student. Historically, I've shown continued progress with technique changes by my coaches and hard work. While I enjoy and perform best at backstroke and fly, I often make adjustments to stroke/distant when needed to support the team, especially our deep high school roster in my first few years. I also co-founded our high school water polo club based on the desire to have more pool time with my teammates/friends.
I look forward to bringing my academic and swimming talents, aligned with collaborative team spirit, to your institution of higher learning.
