Joanna Cullen '22 Recruiting Profile

Hello Coaches,  

I am a multisport athlete.  I have an active NCSA account for softball as well as this account for tennis.  I have always been an active, smart person and absolutely love competition.  I was chosen for the tennis team in my Freshman year of high school,  from a group of girls that have been playing for a lot longer, but I had just picked up a racquet for the first time.  I felt that was a win in itself!!  I enjoy playing doubles as I am a great communicator, so teamwork comes natural for me.  I can also hold my own playing singles, and enjoy this as well.  I have great speed, I was on the track team and did well with running both the mile and sprints.  I decided to use my speed for tennis and softball instead of track.

I was adopted from Guatemala when I was only 6 months old.  I have strong determination and the will to succeed.  I am a petite person, standing at only 4'11" with shoes on but I feel that gives me even more determination.  I get the job done and I have been told that people love watching me perform.  I also played basketball, at my short stature, and would surprise everyone when I would grab a dribbled ball and take off down the gym floor.  The heart of a lion, speed of a cougar and as sly as a fox!   

I was told by my tennis coach, that I am the nicest tennis player he ever knew.  I go into the matches not knowing my opponents and come out smiling and talking.  Making lifelong  friends is an added bonus of playing sports.  I am planning a future in nursing, eventually becoming a nurse anesthetist or aviation for my love of flying.    I am taking  honors and AP classes and excelling.  Give me a chance and you won't be disappointed.
