Personal Statement

I have been playing tennis for the past 10 years and have learned so much about the sport throughout those years. I started at age 5 and began playing USTA tournaments since I was 8. Since that time, I have continued playing tournaments and working on my game during practice. Recently, I was able to obtain a pro-in-training job in Highland Park, where I work alongside the pros and children. I enjoy working with the coaches and seeing the kids achieve higher levels throughout the practices.

The past 3 years on the high school team has taught me to love the sport in a completely different way. I used to see tennis as a very individual sport and relied on only myself during matches, but on a team you have people to support you and cheer you on. At first, I thought it was so strange that coaches could actually talk to players during matches and honestly I didn't quite like it. Now, I look for my coach to help me out against strong opponents.

I hope to play for a college where I connect with the girls and the coaches. I know, from being on my high school team, of the great friendships and bonds that can be created.

Training

  • Tennis
  • 10 years
  • At this point in my tennis carrier I am training 5 days a week to improve not only my technique in tennis but my fitness as well. Four days a week I do group lessons and some weeks have a private lesson with my coach, Richard Watson. Every Saturday I do fitness with a family friend who was a professional soccer player in Russia. He really focuses on my footwork and building my muscle. After practice on Sunday I work alongside the pros in Highland Park to teach the younger kids who come to the club. For an hour and a half I am a player and for the second part of my tennis day, I am able to experience life as a coach in training.
