My dream in life is to become a professional tennis player. I know this is a big statement and by saying this, it requires a lot of work to get there, but I am dedicated and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it. As this does require much work, I first need to start off playing for a collegiate tennis team. My aspiration was to play for a Division 1 school, but if that can't be achieved, then I want to compete for a Division 2 or 3 school. With this, if given the blessed opportunity to play, I will show my dedication and passion to this sport.
I would consider myself to be driven, positive, and a prominent leader. Throughout high school I was involved and well recognized in athletics, my academic success, and involvement in other extracurricular activities.
I am driven and also inner motivated in various ways. One of my most important values that I have set for myself is to strive towards success and give my best effort possible to achieve that. Through my athletic career in high school, my inner drive has shown the most in my tennis performances. I aspired to play #1 or #2 Singles on the Varsity team since I was a young child and my inner drive came through in this with me putting in extra work by competing in tournaments during the off season or staying countless hours after practice during the season to improve my athletic ability. During my four consecutive years of participating as a student athlete, I achieved this goal and even exceeded it by being the team captain three of the four years and being undefeated to 16-0 my junior year and earning the MVP award on my team.
In addition, I show my motivation by being an academically successful student for my four years of high school. I have maintained a GPA of 3.8 or higher, with taking numerous honors courses and also AP courses to further my education. With this, I also pushed myself forward to participate in many extracurricular activities to fulfill my time and apply myself to being more successful in high school. Some of these that I am proud of the most are being inducted into both the National Honor Society and also the Spanish National Honor Society. Furthermore, I was involved in DECA, an Association of Marketing students, for two years; serving as an Officer for one of those years; while also taking on the role of working two part-time jobs at Premier Tennis and Fitness Club and Dairy Queen. With this, I would want to channel this inner driver and motivation to be shown through me to others within the community to achieve the goals they have set.
In accordance to this, I would say that I uphold a positive attitude for a majority of the time due to the setbacks I have incurred and overcame. One of the most important is that I had suffered a major injury with a blow to my head; which affected me both physically and mentally. From this, I not only had to deal with the physicality of two teeth being knocked out; but also the result of memory loss and transferring of information mentally. As a result of this, I now have a 504 plan for my learning purposes. From here, I refer back to my mentioning of my inner drive because even with having this, I made sure it didn't hinder my academic success. It just pushed me to work harder to get good grades, although it took me extended time to complete my school work. This made me such a more positive person because I learned within myself that many people struggle or have it worse than me, but if you put your mind to something, then you can achieve anything you want. This sparked a more positive attitude all around for me and I want to show others that it can happen for them too. This is just one small way I can have a positive impact to the community at your university.
This carries into my next part, which is being a prominent leader. Throughout my high school years, I have held numerous leadership positions. These include being a DECA Officer, a Link Crew Leader, a Team Captain, and also a Student Representative for Student Leadership Council. Having had the experiences I have had with each of these, they have shaped me into becoming a better public speaker and also to have increased self-confidence. I want this to be carried over into others of the community at your campus. I strongly believe that the way conduct myself as a leader can carry over to others and they then will be impacted to make a difference around the community themselves.
I strongly hope you consider me. I personally thank you for your time and consideration to read my statement.
