My aspiration to become a collegiate athlete began the moment I stepped onto the gravel track of my middle school seven years ago. The first ever sprint, jump, and hurdle made me realize that Track will become a significant part of my life. I became addicted to the rush that follows when crossing the finish line, even when I was miles behind. Since then I have devoted my life to earning good grades and reaching for every opportunity to improve. Coming from a small town in Alaska, I have learned to adapt to the shortage of opportunities for young athletes and think daily about other ways I can become a better runner than I was yesterday. Although winning is always on my mind, I have come to realize that the only person that I want to compare to is myself and not my competitors. I have worked excessively to shape myself into a team player that uplifts and encourages those around me so that one day I could be accepted as a valuable member of a collegiate team.
