Hello! My name is Maddy Harris and I have been running track competitively for six years. When I first started hurdling in 5th grade, people underestimated me because I was the shortest and smallest on the team. My coach at the time didn‘t even think I would stick with it and now we train together in the off season. Little did they know their doubt helped motivate me. My motivation helped me make it to Lutheran Sports Association (LSA) state track for hurdles in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. In 8th grade I placed 3rd in the 100m hurdles and that’s when running hurdles became my passion.
My freshman track season was cut short due to covid, so running this year as a sophomore on varsity was extra special. After going to state sophomore year I realized that I didn’t want my love for track to end after two short years and I wanted to continue pursuing my dreams in college.
I am a multi-sport athlete and a well rounded student. I have participated on my jr high and high school volleyball teams and am also apart of my high school choir. I enjoy connecting with my peers and cheering on my team. Our girls varsity team had a lot of great memories on and off the track this year. My favorite was after workouts when we would go get smoothies and run through the sprinkler system at the football field. These team moments helped us place 9th in the 4X200 at state this year. I also ran the 300m hurdles at state this year and hit a huge PR.
Some of my goals are to improve my hurdle times, especially the 300m hurdles because it is my favorite race to run. To meet this goal I work hard and train all year round. Along with my athletic goals, I aspire to major in Interior Design. It is very important to me to maintain a high GPA while challenging myself on the track. My values of determination, hard work, passion, commitment, coachability, and building relationships have gotten me where I am today. I look forward to bringing these skills to my future college.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about who I am on and off the track.
