Winning our Conference has been a goal of mine since I started running varsity track in eighth grade. As an eighth-grader on varsity, it can be scary and overwhelming but I had a group of upperclassmen who helped me navigate my first two years of varsity. Because of them, I learned that as the more experienced runner you need to help the younger ones who aren't sure of their abilities yet. This came in handy my Sophomore year. I was a captain as a sophomore because not only was I the most experienced in the distance program I was one of the most experienced on the team due to the fact we had a very young team. Being a captain I knew I had to step up and help to lead not only the distance program but the entire team. My distance program consisted of two seventh-graders and an eighth-grader. I lead our workouts and before meets, I had captain talks with the entire team. As every meeting came by my team kept getting stronger and we became more of a family as the season went on. The day of the Conference Championship came I everyone was nervous including myself but I decided this was the best time to have a captain's talk with the team. We won our Conference that day and nothing made me prouder, I realized that over this season my leadership skills had strengthened and I was grateful for the opportunity to step up and help lead my team to victory.
Over my years on varsity I have been able to be apart of a growing program that placed 4th, 2nd, 1st in our conference and last year 4th in our section. I have learned the true value of teamwork, commitment, hard work, leadership, and sacrifice. I am looking for a program that not only will challenge me athletically but that also challenge me academically. I believe that I not only have the talent to compete for a collegiate team but also the character, dedication, work ethic, and leadership skills to be able to make a meaningful impact on your program. As a three-sport athlete and a four-time captain for indoor and outdoor track, I believe that I have what it takes to be an impactful member of your team.
