I have learned a lot from being a long-time athlete in a sport that I love and cherish, track and field. I have competed in track and field since I was seven years old. When asked by the people around me if I wanted to compete in college, I would always respond with an "I don't know." or "Maybe?", but now I know that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and if I don't take advantage of this chance, then I will regret it.
I am an easily coachable person and can apply new skills and techniques almost immediately after learning them. I am very versatile, as I have done well in distance events like the 1500m and 800m runs and currently compete in sprints like the 200m and 100m. I can compete in sprint and long hurdle races, as well as field events like the long jump and high jump. I lead stretches and drills at practice and provide pointers to my teammates. My coaches see me as a very dependable person and as someone who they can consistently trust. This applies to both my school and club teams. I aim to challenge myself on the track and within the classroom at all points in time.
Year-round, I compete with my club team, The New York Starz, running in USATF and AAU meets for the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the cross-country season, I still maintain a strict training regimen to stay in shape. All of this contributes to my athleticism.
In school, I drive to maintain good grades and a high GPA of 4.0. I have been inducted into the National Honor Society and the New York State Science Honor Society. My leadership and volunteer service hours, along with strong grades, especially in science, earned me my role in these societies.
I wish to attend a school that can fully utilize my academic and athletic abilities. I would like to compete at the Division I or II level, but I am open to all options. My hope is to grow into an even more well-rounded person, especially one that can make my parents proud to have me as their daughter.
