I grew up listening to my dad quote from the movie Point Break, “If you want the ultimate, you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price; it’s not tragic to die doing what you love.” This served as inspiration for one of my ultimate goals, which is to become excellent at the javelin. Achieving this goal is coming at high price, as training for the javelin is difficult, time consuming and lonely. For that reason, I often find myself reciting the silly Point Break quote while I practice. It’s become a part of who I am. I’ve been on my school’s Varsity Track & Field team for 3 years, chasing PRs and training as smart and as hard as I can. This summer I have been hyper-focused on gaining strength, balance, mobility and technique, with the help of my javelin coach, Duncan Atwood. My current, near-term goal is to throw over 130 feet by the end of October. By the end of the 2024 season, my goal is to throw at least 150 feet and win the Washington State 1A High School championship. From there, I plan to continue my javelin career at the collegiate level. I am willing and able to pay a high price in sweat, time, and effort to make this happen.
