I first joined the volleyball team in fourth grade as a way to hang out with friends. In high school, I developed a passion for the game that began with a never ending hunger to succeed. Freshman year I was a starter on the team, and sophomore year I saw my hard work pay off; I was given a spot on varsity with the impression that I would not receive play time. I quickly progressed by asking questions and staying in the gym after hours to get reps when a skill was not working, and was able to become the key starter on the right side. That year, I realized how much I love the feeling of accomplishment I get after a day's practice, the exhilaration when, after hours of finessing new technique, I finally get the perfect dig or kill. This junior year, I took my volleyball skills to new heights. After trying out for the Wildcat Juniors team, I was able to play on the 18 Black team where we won the Club division at the NIT tournament in Kansas City. My years playing volleyball have helped me to become a well rounded individual. I regularly apply myself in school due to my hunger for success, am interested in my classes, have joined an A Capella group, play beach volleyball in the summer, and do club and high school volleyball in the winter, as well as ultimate frisbee in the spring. Being an athlete gives me the mental determination to succeed on and off the court because I learned that you are responsible for whether or not you get better. During practice I always ask questions; the more I know about the skill, the better I can apply it. In college, I hope to further my volleyball skill-set and get an amazing education in either science or economics. I want to have a successful career after college as well as continue playing volleyball for the rest of my life. I have grown as a player and want to take my abilities to the next level. I am determined to do things others deem impossible, I am extremely coach-able, and I am ready to work.
