Being a varsity player in a large school as a freshman taught me a lot and helped me develop as an athlete both on and off the court. As one of the youngest players on my team, I had to prove I was more than worthy of my spot. Playing with older girls and getting to compete against other amazing athletes seemed pretty scary at first but this experience taught me that you can't be afraid and that I was put on the team for a reason. Although I didn't get much time on the court, I would always be screaming for my team and trying to help in as many ways as I could. Even if it was something as simple as calling the ball out. Every role has its purpose and I was able to see how important mine was, even if it wasn't exactly what I hoped for.
I've always considered myself to be a "one more" athlete and believe attitude is everything. In life, I always do one more than everyone else because I am a firm believer that you get what you deserve. I will always take the extra rep along with any gym time I can get. Practice has become so important for me, it is where I would get the most playing time and get to prove that I am worthy of time on the court. I also learned that the court is where I loved to be and practice became the thing I look forward to the most in my week. Volleyball is my home, it allows me to be who I am and just forget everything going on around me.
This year was an immense eye-opener for me. At the end of my season, my coach told me I was going to have to push myself really hard for my spot on her team. At first, I wasn't really sure how to take it but over the Summer I finally realized that she was just pushing me to be a better athlete. So since then, I have taken every opportunity I can to be on a court playing with anyone available. I currently do personal training outside of school 2 times a week and spend my other free days playing with some of the boys Junior Varsity team. Getting to play with them made me work even harder and helped me become the player I am today.
