I consider every opportunity that I get to play volleyball or any other sport a blessing. I was born with severe bilateral club foot. My parents took me to Duke monthly to receive new thigh-high casts to help straighten my feet. Fortunately, both my parents are physical therapists so they were able to stretch and tape my feet when I was little. I won my first 50 yard dash in kindergarten and I have not stopped since. As a freshman, I started in three varsity sports. These size 11s provide a great source of stability and quickness now!
I appreciate the opportunity to play and practice, so I can continue to challenge myself and improve my skills. Sometimes I have to laugh though... like when I thought I should literally hit the ball with my thumb down. Who knew it meant hitting the left side of the ball to go to the 5 spot?!?! On a serious note, I do realize volleyball will be a way to reduce the financial burden of college expenses for which I will be thankful. I would consider that a personal success. Just as important, I want to help whichever college I attend be more successful as well.
