I have been playing sports all my life. I have been playing volleyball since I was 9 years old but was introduced to it years before that. When I started playing volleyball, I immediately knew it was the sport for me because I loved the intensity of the game. I love how volleyball gets your adrenaline going. I have always wanted to play a sport at the collegiate level because I am very athletic and competitive.
I have played Setter and Opposite Hitter my whole volleyball career so far. On my High School JV team, I played all around. I was awarded the honor of being the captain and the MVP award in my sophomore year. On my 2020 CJV 16’s club team, I was the setter in a 5-1 rotation. I was also the captain of my team.
Since I have been the captain of both of my middle school teams, all of my club teams, and my High School JV team, I know what it is like to be a leader. Being the captain doesn’t mean you get to boss everyone around. It means you get to be the role model and show everyone how things are supposed to be done. This doesn’t just mean on the court. It means in life too. As the leader, you need to be aware of every single one of your teammates on and off the court. When I was the captain of my teams and when I wasn’t, I always looked out for my teammates on the court and off the court whether they got down on themselves because the messed up on a play or they were having friends or family issues. I will always be there for my teammates.
When it comes to sports, I am a very fast learner and I am very coachable. I know the game of volleyball like the back of my hand. When I started playing and got familiar with all the basic rules I then started to learn how to play all of the positions while I was still getting taught my own. I will always try to go above and beyond to try and know the game better than anyone else whether it is about certain rotations or how to put a ball down when there is a big block. My ears are always open to learning new things about my favorite sport so I always ask my coaches questions and love to get their input on the game. I will always want to be the absolute best player and teammate I can be.
Education is very important to me. My coaches have always said that education matters most and I 100% agree with them. My main goal for college is to get a nursing degree because I want to become a nurse practitioner. I want to go into nursing school, graduate, and go to work in a hospital. I love helping people and I have always wanted to work in the medical field. It has always been my dream.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my Personal Statement.
Sincerely,
Brynn Dickerson
