Coming from a family of educators has instilled the importance of being a life-long learner. At an early age, I set a goal to continue my education at the collegiate level. As I write this personal statement, I realize how fortunate I am to have both the academic and athletic ability to achieve this goal.
Motivation, drive, and discipline is what it takes to be a student-athlete. However, balancing all of the responsibilities can be challenging yet extremely rewarding. I, being very motivated and dedicated to everything I do, feel as if I have managed these responsibilities exceptionally well. These qualities follow me even when not in the classroom. I have the drive to try and make everyone around me the best they can be. As you will see in my profile, I was the captain of my high school wrestling team and I served as a volunteer coach to assist the local youth programs in our area. In addition to wrestling and academics, I enjoy lifting, surfing, fishing, and golfing.
With the unprecedented times of COVID-19, many prospective student-athletes are facing challenges with the college selection process. Everyone is dealing with cancellations of off-season events, limited space for practice and limitations placed on the ability for on-site college visits. However, my situation is unique, as I have also transferred to a new high school during my senior year. I am the type of person that looks at challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow. I am using the COVID-19 situation, coupled with the transition to a new high school, as a preview for college and I couldn’t be more excited about achieving my next level goals.
