HI! My name is Lola Aguilar and I want to tell you a little bit about myself and why I think I would be a good candidate for a collegiate volleyball athletic program!
I have been playing volleyball since I was 11 years old and found that I loved it the most from other sports that I played. I found that I enjoyed being part of a team and winning. It was a good opportunity to learn that winning isn't everything and losing is ok, as long as you are trying your best as a team and strive to make the win happen next time. Playing has made me more optimistic, dedicated and able to overcome challenges. My skills have developed a lot over the years and my leadership and being part of fair and competitive environment has helped me grow in leadership maturity. I have been lucky enough to be nominated as Captain for five of six teams I have been on thus far, and I am considered a utility all-around player. My core position is a Libero, but I utility as a DS, and Setter; I am also called upon to play OH and OPP when needed. I love being in a competitive environment and I feel that playing both Club/Travel and School volleyball has helped me to prepare for my college experience. I am super happy to say that I made the Junior Varsity team for my Freshman year and was moved up to Varsity where I played in my Sophomore year! I am excited to play Varsity again, going into my Junior year this fall (2023). We came in to win the District Regular Season, the District Tournament and the Region Championship for 2023 with a 10-0 record! We will be playing on November 11th and 14th in the quarter and semifinals for VA States! I have helped to lead our team through this season as the starting OH (6R) and so excited that I was able to contribute still with my core skill of passing while in the front and back row. I was also recognized with the All District - Second Team for 2023. This is coming on the tail end of me being asked to join and be accepted into the National Honor Society (NHS), which I am incredibly proud to be a part of! Go PHOENIX!
One of the most recent highlights I am so proud to mention, is that my Club Team went to the 2023 50th AAU Nationals this year and we took 1st place in our bracket! This was a huge accomplishment for us and an awesome way to end the season! I was so proud to play the Libero for this this team and win with them! Though we faced several challenges during the season, we made a plan, and we all came together for the top win. It was very exciting to be a part of.
Academically, I was ranked 5th in my freshman (2021) class and held a 4.3 GPA my freshman year! I just finished up my Sophomore year and closed out at a 4.0. I really enjoy going to school and hanging out with my friends and being able to play for my school and travel team. I have recently been asked by my Club team to help by being an assistant coach in private lessons and camps to the younger players joining the sport. I absolutely love doing this and it gives me the opportunity to keep the game growing with the younger generations. I am also so proud to say that the class of 2025 at my high school voted for me to represent them for the 2023 Homecoming Court for our Junior class. I was so excited to be a part of that experience for my high school.
Enjoying school while being able to play the sport I love is really important to me and I hope that is something I can continue into college. I know that it will be challenging, but I am a dedicated student and athlete. I think if you were to meet me and come see me play you would see how much I love the game, being part of a team, and what the benefit of having me on your team would be. I also have an Athlete profile with videos on IG @lolaaguilar906 and I keep my NCSA profile updated with my highlights and films. My Hudl link is http://www.hudl.com/profile/16856969 and was used for my JV games and 2023 Varsity games.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile! :)
