Hi Coaches!
Over the past few years, I have made many wonderful connections with coaches who have written and "followed me" through NCSA. The words of encouragement along with the many offers I have received have been both a humbling and flattering experience.
After a hectic Summer (2016) of recruiting trips to seven different universities, I then set my sights on a DS position at Nebraska. Dani Busboom and I had been communicating regarding a walk-on spot at the university. I began to justify in my mind that a walk-on position over a scholarship would be fantastic, as long as it was with one of the best programs in the country. We spoke several times and she also contacted my club coach/director, BJ Bryant. We had been trying to arrange a trip to attend a camp in Nebraska when I severely sprained my ankle going over a high hurdle at the state track meet. This happened right before Nationals in Florida which also resulted in me having to cancel my visit to the university. Dani told me that I was still in the running, but a couple of weeks later, she informed me that they had decided to go with another in-state Nebraska player. Dani was very supportive and also reassured me that"something good would still come my way".
For the past year, I've kept my sights high on earning a Division 1 scholarship, but I began to realize that the chances of that happening had really diminished, almost to the point that every scholarship has been filled.
I only know how to play the game I love at 100%. As a consciousness teammate, I would also be extremely committed to year-round training. With this in mind, I've also come to realize that it is only through a scholarship that I could justify playing volleyball at the next level. My focus, for the time being, will be to get off to a great start academically.
