For many years, I have demonstrated grit and determination on and off the pool deck. Apart from partaking in clubs that focus on giving back to the community and earning A’s in honors and AP classes, I have also proved my caliber through the game of water polo. Before performance assessments, whether games or tests, I use sensory techniques to evoke the most successful execution of play and intelligence. After hearing insights from professional athletes on high-performing behaviors and my own research, I initiated the practice of visualization to the Division I RBHS girls water polo team. From here, each individual was able to share both their personal and team goals that we hoped to accomplish for the following games and incorporated this practice into our pregame ritual. While my influence on the pool deck cannot go unnoticed, my impact on campus supplements my aptitude and progression.
Academically, I have been able to maintain a high level of education amidst my participation in specific clubs such as best buddies, peer counseling, save the Earth, and key club. By sophomore year, I had achieved a 4.04 overall GPA resulting from science, mathematics, and literature-based courses, and represented my high school team as one of their captains and a player selected on the All Palomar League First Team. The high-level of competitive water polo through club, high school, and the Olympic Development Program that I partake in year-round has allowed me to further my growth as a leader and a teammate. Due to being one of the older children of my family, I am capable of bringing my positive attitude and communication skills to every team in which I participate. Amongst all of these different teams I have formed personal and long-lasting bonds that brought out the unique strengths of different players. I led my high school team with the highest amount of steals, assists, goals, and earned exclusions; but the quality of water polo we achieved together were the moments I valued most.
I aspire to be a student-athlete in college, playing water polo not only to continue my fitness, but to also represent the university I attend in the best way possible. I appreciate your consideration of my abilities, and the leadership, coachability, and companionship I could potentially bring to your program. Thank you for this opportunity!
