I started wrestling in seventh grade and I have now reached my final season as a senior. I struggled with a lot of anxiety in the beginning of wrestling. I would panic and freak out and be so nervous I would cry. I would get out on the mat and still be crying. I was already mentally so beat at that point. I had to get over that. I started working a lot on my nerves and my mindset and once I was able to control those emotions a little, I saw a huge difference in my wrestling skills. I started winning more often and being the attacker because I felt a lot more confident going into the match. I still struggle with many of the same mental blocks and anxiety that lingers around but through wrestling I learned so much about myself and my mind. I thank wrestling for that. I thank wrestling for allowing my mind to grow and for giving me all the mental strength I need. Lastly, I want to continue my education through wrestling not only because I love wrestling, but I also value my education. I think being able to do something I love while also being able to continue my education is amazing. I strive to be better everyday, academically and athletically. I believe wrestling is something that helps me physically and mentally.
