Personal Statement

Throughout my journey as a wrestler, I have learned that success is not only about winning. Naivety as a kid tends to fixate on that aspect of the sport, and in having matured I am able to take an introspective look on my progression as an athlete. My aspirations have shifted from solely winning to becoming the most well-rounded athlete and general student of the sport. Wrestling has given me not only physical strength but also mental fortitude and perseverance. I have always faced challenges regarding my mental and the lack of belief in myself. I couldn't tell you how many silent car rides back home that has lead to; but in facing these challenges and having had losses on the mat, I have learned to embrace them as opportunities for growth and improvement.

One of the most significant aspects of my experience as a wrestler has been the friendships I have made along the way. Wrestling is a team sport, and the bonds I have formed with my teammates are integral to my success both on and off the mat. We have trained together, pushed each other to our limits, and celebrated each other's victories. These friendships have taught me the value of teamwork and support, as well as giving me the power to overcome my own obstacles. I believe heavily in the idea of "the Zone of Proximal Development", I couldnt have made it to where I am today without the support group I have currently.

That's not to say that I dont have room to improve in either aspect. I am far from a perfect wrestler, a perfect teammate, a perfect student. However, what I lack in, is what I wish to improve in.

I apsire to be a college wreslter because I believe it will help me become the best version of myself.
