I started wrestling in fifth grade for a youth program, Baguba. Honestly, when I was approached by Coach Pfeiffer on the football field to wrestle in the next season I was apprehensive because I wasn't sure I'd like the sport. However, I found that not to be the case. I enjoyed, that when you work hard and win the match all the satisfaction is soley yours! I continued to work hard and prove myself and was moved up to the Varsity 99lb spot for Iroquois Central High School. From here, my love for wrestling and career took off.
I will be an asset to a college wrestling program because I will always strive to do my best. I will set goals for myself and work hard to meet or exceed those goals. As much as this sport is individual it is also a team sport. I will dedicate time to improving my own performance as well as my teammates. I will accept constructive critism from my coach and teammates to improve on the mat. I will manage my time so that I am not only successful athletically but academically as well.
Last year, I had set a goal to go to the State Tournament. I worked hard all season, but fell short when I tore my meniscus on the mat at Sectionals. I was proud I still managed to place 6th , at 132 lb, in the section even though I was injured. I worked hard after surgery to rehabilitate and get strong. I am working hard to get to the State tournament this year or next! I am striving then to place at the State tournamnet if I reach my goal of getting there.
Academics do not always come easy to me , but I continue to work hard to strive for an 85 or higher. I am committed to taking prep courses for my SAT and ACT. I will continue to work hard for the advanced regents diploma that I am on track to receive.
I placed the last two seasons at very competitive weight classes and tournaments. My freshman season at 120 lb, I took 2nd at the Sectional Qualifier, Class tournamnet. My Sophomore year at 132lb. I took 3rd at the sectional Qualifier , Class tournament. I was proud to take 2nd at the Williamsville North Tournament , losing a tough battle 7-2 to a state finalist Zach Braddell. My accolades for my seasons have been, Coaches Award in 7th grade, Most Improved in 8th grade and Most Valuable Wrestler in 9th grade.
