My name is Michael Mejia and I am a wrestler for Newfield High school. I’ve had a pretty late start when it came to wrestling but I have been very dedicated and have come a long way since I stepped on the mat my freshman year. My Freshman and Sophomore year I was a mediocre JV wrestler with more losses than wins, but I trained really hard during the off season after my Sophomore year and ended up placing 2nd in the League, tallying up 20 varsity wins, and becoming team captain. I’ve faced lots of adversity with injuries and setbacks, but I persevered through them all and managed to make it to the League finals when nobody had believed in me. I plan on winning leagues next year and qualifying for states with enough hard work. Although I may not be the best wrestler that has gone all state or have had a ton accolades, I have come a long way these past two years and will continue to improve.
