Personal Statement

Hi my name is Jake Ryan Scherbyn and I am a multifaceted athlete.  Since my early years I have had the drive and the desire to be the best in whatever I set my mind to.  I am an accomplished former gymnast and believe that the years I spent in the gym at a young age were a launching point for me into becoming a gifted athlete.   I learned early on the importance of goal setting and found the significance of developing new skills and self-improvement for its own sake were far more important to me than an external benefit, so these are my driving forces that keep me going in and out of the classroom.

A student-athlete requires a great deal of commitment, responsibility, determination, and motivation. Each of these qualities contributed to a solid foundation of my character and, furthermore has enabled me to be both an accomplished student as well as an athlete.  I am a 3 season athlete able to maintain my grades while pursuing my sports for the entire school year.  In the fall I ran cross country from 7-9th.  I was put on the varsity team as an 8th grader.  In the winter I am a wrestler also competing at the varsity level as an 8th grader.  In the spring I played lacrosse for the first time on the modified squad and quickly became one of the favored players.

I firmly believe that work ethic, dependability, self-motivation, and self-discipline can all be learned while playing sports, they are a great tool that can be used to teach life lessons, ones that will enable me to go onto college and be a successful student and person later in life.  And that is my wish – to focus on my next goals in life.  To get into a great college and pursue my dream of being a celebrated athlete and a prosperous student.  I would especially like to feel a strong sense of belonging at the college of my choice, where I feel my coaches and teammates are accepting and always in my corner, I am a loyal person by nature and this is something that is important to me.

In hopes that I can pursue wrestling in college, I am now preparing myself to be the best I can be in the coming years.  I moved schools this year and will now be a part of the Spencerport wrestling team.  I appreciate the comradery and team cohesion and am excited to be a part of this great legacy.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
