Personal Statement

My parents told me I was born with a ball in my hand. Whether it was a basketball, soccer ball or baseball,  I was always playing ball.   As an infant I received physical therapy, probably because I am a twin.  I used one leg more dominate than the other.  Luckily, as I got older, I got bigger and stronger, and all of those issues went away.     As a young kid, sports was all I was interested in.  From kindergarten on I played soccer, baseball and basketball.   I just had a natural love for any sport.  I was lucky to be  a naturally athletic person.   While I love all sports, I have played baseball more than anything…travel baseball, little league and school baseball.  Some people say being born left handed isn’t good.    For me it sure was.   As a pitcher I face batters who barely get to see a left handed pitcher.    I think my biggest asset as a young player is my coachability and hard work.   I realized early on that to get better I had to know how to listen to my coaches feedback and then work hard to change my play to get better.    More reps, more ground balls, and more pitches in my workouts.   Same for my academics.   Many of my friends get good grades without working hard.   For me, I have to work very hard to maintain my 3.2 GPA, extra help with my teachers and tutors.    I know as I transition to college, I will need to continue to work hard and take feedback to be successful at both baseball and academics.

  • Excerpt from Top Ten Performers at College Showcase...Anthony Schieble (John Glenn 2022) Schieble was also at our event in September and I noticed how smooth his lefty swing is. His HS coach stated that he would’ve had a chance to start at the varsity level last year. I think he’s going to be an impact bat this year. He recorded a peak exit velocity of 85 MPH which is not elite but his ability to make contact slightly negates that. He showed the propensity to barrel the ball ip and he also has potential on the mound. The southpaw topped at 73.5 which isn’t going to overpower anyone but showed command of his breaking ball that will be a good counter to any hard-throwing right-handed pitcher that precedes him. https://www.axcessbaseball.com/2021/01/19/who-were-the-top-performers-at-mondays-college-showcase/

  • Excerpt from Game Changer... Both teams were strong on the mound Saturday, but Freedom 16U defeated Islip Owls 16U 3-1. AJ Schieble allowed just three hits to Islip Owls 16U. In the first inning, Freedom 16U got their offense started. Freedom 16U scored one run when Ryan Shih doubled. Schieble led the Freedom 16U to victory on the pitcher's mound. Schieble allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four.

  • Excerpt from Showcase Recap -- We were fortunate to have a perfect September day for our showcase on Saturday at Baldwin Park. We had about 70 players and 20 colleges represented. I will go over some of the top performers from the event. Special thanks to the Italian American Baseball Foundation for sponsoring the event. ... Anthony Schieble (John Glenn 2022) Schieble got my attention with two things he did very well – his exit velocity of 90.2 stood out among the best in attendance. His lefty swing produced some well-struck line drives. Additionally, his command on the mound was great to see. He pitched at our tournament back in July as well so I know he can execute in-game as well. His velocity of 70-73 MPH didn’t jump out, but he was down in the zone and if he gets a growth spurt he will add 5-10 more MPH. His breaking ball was 60-65 MPH. https://youtu.be/d1ZYDw1F7C8

  • Game Changer Summary -- AJ Schieble didn't allow a single run as Freedom Baseball 15U defeated Replay Rangers Showcase 4-0 on Thursday. Schieble allowed just two hits. Freedom Baseball 15U got things started in the first inning. Rich Ratchford grounded out, scoring one run. One bright spot for Replay Rangers Showcase was a single by #12 in the third inning. Schieble was the winning pitcher for Freedom Baseball 15U. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out 11.
