My name is Jakob Bretstein and I am an expected 2024 graduate from Schreiber High School in Port Washington, New York and play primarily SS and some 2B as well. I also play for our town’s travel teams, the Port Washington Legends and Vikings. I strongly believe that my ability, work ethic and motivation, both on and off the field, would make me an asset to your program.
I’m 5’10” 135 lbs. and I play a fluid and smooth shortstop. My raw arm strength has been measured at 81 mph from SS. Additionally, I have recorded 80 MPH exit velocity in workouts. I run a current 7.2 60- yard dash as a shortstop.
I made Schreiber High School’s varsity baseball team in Spring of 2022 as a sophomore and won the starting shortstop job by beating out 3 seniors and 2 juniors. I led our team in fielding percentage and was awarded the Gold Glove by our coaches and team for the season. I also helped lead our team to the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
As a member of the Port Washington Legends travel team, I helped lead our team to the finals of the Long Island Hot Stove Varsity Summer League’s championship game as their starting shortstop. I led the team in fielding percentage and had the lowest number of errors. This past fall, I helped lead our Port Washington Vikings Travel Team made up of the school’s varsity and j.v. players to the Fall League Long Island Boys of Summer championship as their starting shortstop and some-time 2nd baseman.
I currently have a 3.5 GPA at Schreiber High School in Port Washington. I am scheduled to take my SAT on March 11th, 2023. My academic strengths reside in my core courses of Spanish, English, and Social Studies (US History)). I’m interested in the field of sports psychology, and this would be my anticipated major.
