Baseball has been a large part of my life—I have played every season, and almost every position. But from early on, pitching fueled my desire to play. I competed in a local pitching competition against about 25 other pitchers, some were sophomores and some juniors who at the time were a few years older than me. I finished ahead of them leading the competition in strikeouts, so I felt pretty good about my ability. When I started my freshmen year on JV, I realized the mound is where I felt the most comfortable and the most confident. I played Varsity my sophomore year, as a starter and reliever, and finished the season in the top 20 in strikeouts in western North Carolina and pitched our first playoff game to a 7-2 win.
I have always been a team player who encourages and motivates everyone to work hard and play the game hard, but it was my sophomore year that I realized it feels good to be that uplifting person. I believe it creates strong bonds that help win games and help face disappointment with more focus and intent. I am a pitcher who is coachable—I listen carefully, learn from mistakes, and make necessary adjustments. I know there is always room for improvement, growth, and development. I have not decided on my academic path, but my goal is to always become better—investing in myself--on and off the field. I believe I have the character, work ethic, and skill set to make an immediate impact on your program and I look forward to what the future holds.
Thanks,
Zach Bohn
