I began playing field hockey in 2016 to help my sister build her confidence before she tried out her freshman year of high school. My sister had been apprehensive about the possibility of getting cut from the team so, I devoted my time after completing my homework to learning the rules and fundamentals of field hockey. I practiced for approximately three hours every day with my sister to assist her in making the team. My sister ended up becoming the Junior Varsity goalie that year, and my passion for field hockey grew. My middle school career became an opportunity for me to extend my knowledge through responsibilities like managing the scorebook, photographing the games, and taking notes for my sister's team.
Thus far in my high school career, I have been fortunate enough to be trained by two coaches that know the significance of sustaining academic excellence. From Fall 2018- Fall2019, my team has maintained the highest grade point average (with over a 3.0) of all athletic teams within my school. These women have also created opportunities for me to work with Junior Varsity players to harness their skills. Over the years, I have realized that regardless of the task, teaching others enables me to expand my knowledge and inspire me to reach new goals. Overall, the academic standards and goal-based program that my coaches have implemented allowed me to evolve as a player and a student. Ultimately through this recruiting process, I hope to discover a school that upholds similar principles.
