Winning my age division in the South Dakota state junior championship when I was 14 was a big highlight in my golf career. Later that year, in the state AA high school championship, I finished tied for third as a freshman with a two day total score of one under par. I finished with the lowest score on my team, helping lead us to a second place finish. I have had success in tournament golf since I was very young, but those results as a freshman inspired confidence and a love for team golf. The following year my high school team had a strong regular season, winning or placing in the top three in most of our events. My team and I had confidence going in to the high school state championship and had a five stroke lead after the first day. Unfortunately, I did not play well the second day, and some of my teammates struggled too. We finished second and left the tournament shocked and disappointed.
What happened that year helped me to mature as a person and as an athlete. I learned that I can't take anything for granted. That experience caused me to re-focus my efforts and to work harder to play well and to get better. I learned never to give up and to always keep working to be the best that I can be.
When I was first learning how to walk, my dad put a golf club in my hand and taught me how to swing. I have loved the game since then and find enjoyment in the effort it takes to improve. I enjoy tournament golf and hope to continue developing as a competitive player through the rest of my high school years and at the college level. Outside of golf I am looking forward to volunteering for the Children's Miracle Network this summer. I enjoy playing the violin with my school orchestra and have made all-state orchestra the last three years. My academic goals for high school are to keep getting straight A's and to grow more in knowledge as I prepare for college. My academic goals for college are to pursue a well-rounded education focused in the sciences. I have an interest in pursuing a career in medicine in the future.
I believe that I have the talent to compete on a college level golf team. I have a great work-ethic and don't plan on giving up the pursuit to improve my game during college. I have also worked hard to develop kindness, integrity, and an upright character. These characteristics will help me to succeed at the college level and to make an impact on your program. As a four time varsity letter winner in high school through my junior year, I know that I have what it takes to compete in your program and to help make a positive impact on your team!
