Derek Farrell '23 Recruiting Profile

Hi, I’m Derek. I’ve been skating ever since I was 4, and have been playing hockey since I was 7. I’ve played multiple other sports so far, and hockey has become my primary focus. I recently entered senior year. I played on the Connecticut Junior Rangers for the past 3 seasons as a defenseman. I run track & field and cross country for Somers High School. I’ve made it a focus to work hard both on the ice and in the gym, and have trained year round. I’m working to become as good as I can possibly be.

I’m the founder and co-president of philosophy club in my school, a bassist and member of a band, and a waterfront certified lifeguard. I’m also interested in computer science, and plan on taking more courses focused on it.

I had a 93% average in 8th Grade and achieved membership in the National Junior Honor Society.  My cumulative GPA for high school through 11th Grade is 91.4%.

In my free time, I love to listen to music, read, and write, as well as watch movies with friends. My favorite bands are The Doors and The Talking Heads, my favorite books are The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway and Dune by Frank Herbert, and my favorite movies are Lawrence of Arabia and Taxi Driver.
