My name is Lucas Whitehead and it has been my dream, now my goal, to play Collegiate hockey since I can remember. I am dedicated to putting in the work both on and off the ice everyday, to achieve this dream. I have come to realize that my commitment to my education and grades, is as important as my commitment to my on and off ice hockey training. My on-ice development training continues through the off season with Shoot the Puck hockey school, run by Trevor Gardener and Josh Boni Hockey, run by Josh Boni. I continue to maintain an off ice fitness/nutrition program, through the Gary Roberts Jr Elite Program and Mind to Muscle, lead by Greg Eskedjian.
I shape my game after the likes of Tory Krug and Charlie McAvoy. My skating and first pass ability are keys to my success, as a two way defenseman. I love to join the rush when the opportunity is right, allowing for another offensive option, but I do not do this in the absence of ensuring a "defense first" mentality. I believe my work ethic and Hockey IQ have allowed me to continue to elevate my game, while be a trusted contributor on and off the ice by my teammates and coaching staff.
My family means everything to me, with hockey being a very close second. My parents and sister are very supportive of my goals and dreams both in sports and schooling. They have provided a pathway for me to success, but remain on the sidelines in a supportive role, which enables me to meet my challenges and succeed based on my work being put in and results coming out. I am always looking for new and innovative ways to train and improve. Through this research of improving my overall hockey abilities, it has led me to my increasing interest in fitness, nutrition and sports psychiatry. I am an avid reader of inspirational and motivational books, ranging from Greg Wells to David Goggins to Matt Fitzgerald.
I will go to College for Kinesiology or Sports Psychiatry, while hopefully continuing my hockey path at the same time. Once I graduate and my hockey career is over, I plan on continuing to be involved in team sports and hockey, through coaching or on/off ice training. This will allow me to assist athletes in achieving their goals, in the same way that my trainers are assisting me to achieve mine.
All my training for hockey has left me with a mental focus on hard work and a will to succeed, at whatever I do in sport, school and life. I am certain that my character and work ethic will lead to the success I am striving for.
