My name is Grant Tansill and I am a 17-year-old Junior playing Varsity Lacrosse at Locust Valley High School in Locust Valley (Long Island), New York. I maintain a 89/90 GPA and am on the High Honor Roll. Last fall I was also inducted into the Nation Honor Society for my academic achievements and community services.I am deeply committed to the sport of Lacrosse, and performing all preparation necessary to play at the college level.
I have been a starting defensemen since Sophomore year and have been playing on Varsity since the end of my Freshman season. I play both close defense and long stick midfield while currently wearing jersey number 8 and standing 5’10 tall and weighing 164 pounds. Last season, I had one goal, seven assist and roughly 60 ground balls. I was named to the 2010 All Conference Team and was a winner of the 2010 Academic All-Conference Award voted by Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association.
I am deeply committed to the sport of Lacrosse and have been playing my whole life to improve my game and achieve my goal of playing at the college level. My strengths include speed, hustle, determination and excellent “open field” vision. I am also very aware of the errors that I may make, and attempt to learn from them so they are not repeated. I am constantly working to improve my stick skills, both in terms of dexterity and speed, while spending time in the weight room to improve my upper and lower body strength.
I consider myself to be a well-rounded athlete, and play numerous other sports at competitive levels. Last season, I was the MVP of the Varsity Golf Team and have been playing Varsity Golf since 8th grade.I have also been playing Ice Hockey (as a defenseman) on a regular basis since I was four years old. My experience with Ice Hockey has really improved my defensive mentality and has allowed me to learn how to give and take a check. I feel like my greatest strength in both sports is my open field vision and keeping my head up to see the entire field and make plays. When it comes to my leadership I am more of quiet leader and find a way to lead by example on and off the field. ,
Over the summer months, I will be playing Lacrosse for my school’s summer team as well as attending Lacrosse Camp at the Peak 200 Camp in Springfield, MA, the Whiz kids camp at Avon Old Farms, and Head of the Class at Manhasset High School. I also was invited to the Long Island Showcase and Empire team tryouts. I will also be looking to volunteer with youth players around my community to get them to greater levels and build up Lacrosse in my town of Locust Valley.
I have recently began my college visits and feel that I would fit great in a medium sized school while not eliminating bigger schools. Realistically I would like to play at the division three level but both division one and two are still open options. For the moment my geological interests are other than the New England region, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Delaware and Florida. For now I am open to all different types of schools and any major that I might find an interest in.
My lacrosse coach at Locust Valley High School feels that if I wanted to I can play at the division one level, which I am not opposed to. I just want to be able to play the great game of Lacrosse while still being able to enjoy the college I attend. I would also like to say thank you for taking the time to read this Personal Statement and with hard work and determination, I feel I have what it takes to play at any level to the best of my abilities.
