Hi! My name is Sasha Wright and I'm a senior at Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School
For many years of my life, I've done three different sports: soccer, karate, and dance. However, those were not much of a good fit for me, and my parents heard from a friend of theirs that rowing was a good sport that I should try and they registered me the summer before 7th grade. Joining crew made me a different person- I got in shape and made new friends. I started off as a rower, and I was too short to be good at it. My first year on the Varsity Girls' Team as a freshman, I got the worst erg scores on the team. I started admiring the coxswains, wondering if it was a good idea. After talks with my coach and parents, I made the switch to be a coxswain for the Varsity Boys' Team the fall of my sophomore year of high school. With three years of rowing experience under my belt, I knew a great deal of rowing detail. With my experience on an all boys team, I learned how to become a leader, motivator, a great teammate, and friend. I gradually went from getting close to last place and coxing novice to getting in higher-ranked boats, winning races, and coming in the top ten. I am still working on my skills, talking with coaches and other coxswains on my team to see how I could improve- I even went to a Sparks Rowing Camp at Boston University in July 2022 to help with my skills. In college, I'm open to coxing women or men, either one I could do. At the end of my junior year, I finished with a 3.90 unweighted and a 4.20 weighted GPA, with AP European History, Spanish 3 Honors, and Spanish 4 Honors Language as a few of the classes that I challenged myself with. I am also in three honor societies as well: National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and Foreign Language Honor Society.
I have just committed to the George Washington University for Divison I Women's Rowing.
