As part of my collegiate aspirations, I want to be a member of a high-performing collegiate soccer team. This, I believe, will help me improve my character as well as build a variety of vital life skills, such as teamwork, personal drive, and collaboration. I've been playing soccer since I was four years old, and my passion for the game drives me to improve and develop my skills and abilities. From the time I first started playing for my father's AYSO team, I've learned humility and the importance of teamwork. Playing in AYSO, and later on AYSO United, instilled in me the value of having fun at all times, while simultaneously staying competitive. Now having played at a higher level — NPL Club and college showcases — I have a humble background and perspective on things. These include the EDP Showcase Tournament, Jefferson Cup, FC Delco Players Cup, and NYCSL Open Cup. Both club soccer and AYSO have given me a new perspective and understanding of people and life, and I plan to implement these views in collegiate soccer.
I recognize the value of a future college education and am willing to put in the necessary effort to balance my studies and soccer. As I continue to improve my soccer skills, being a student-athlete will teach me how to manage my time, stay devoted to my studies, and become a more responsible person in general. I will also hopefully learn how to become a leader on and off the soccer field, and ultimately grow and develop as a soccer player and person.
I honestly believe I would be a great fit for a team that values teamwork. I realize that soccer is a team sport and that to succeed as a team, you must work together. I've learned that you cannot constantly worry about yourself as you have to look out for each other and collaborate, while also being open to constructive criticism to improve as a player. From my experience with AYSO, I understand that player development is a never-ending process; there is always more to learn and improve on. I have a strong work ethic and will persevere until I am satisfied with my contribution to the team's overall success.
Finally, my intelligence and passing ability distinguish me from other recruits. I am a very unselfish player on the field, and I can read the field well, allowing me to make the best decisions for my team's success. I am also comfortable on the ball with both feet, making it difficult for defenders to read. My strongest position is as a center midfielder. This position allows me to facilitate the ball and become involved on both sides of play. I also train during the offseason and push myself every day to be the best player I can be. Overall, I learned from AYSO: honesty, hard work, and team spirit, which I can bring to your program.
