I am a late starter who puts in more effort than anyone I see around me at the pool. I started swimming in a small "family" team in France, just a few practices a week. It was my move to Canada in 2018, at age 13, that pushed me into another league. I started swimming for a big club, and really loved the way it made me feel. I loved the physicalness of lactate & watching myself improve FAST, within 3 years I went from the lower skilled groups to latest group in the club, "Senior Elite," and recently qualifying for Canadian Trials in 3 events.. Last year, season 2021-2022 is when I realized that I want more than the other swimmers around me in Senior 2. So I communicated my coach, was fully focused at practices, and started my own extra weight training and fitness days. I made it. I am full of a feeling of potential and excitement.
I come from a family legacy of late starting swimmers. My Grand father, Bill Yorzyk, didn't learn to swim until his first year at Springfield College. In fact he couldn't make any sports team in high school. 6 years later he won a gold medal and had transformed butterfly into what it is today (FINAs first butterflier, Melbourne 1956). I have grown up with the knowledge that it is never too late to go for what you want. That it is up to me to make it happen. Part of my skills are turning disappointment into fortune. For example,el, this year I didn't qualify for Westerns in time to register for team travel. I decided, it didn't matter. At Provincials I would qualify for Canadian Trials. And I did, in 3 events.. Dropping 10 seconds of my 400IM from a month before.
