My name is Gabe Meiselman, and I am from Scarsdale NY. I have been a committed swimmer for 10 years. I am a year-round club swimmer for the YWCA Middies and a varsity athlete outside during the winter. I have been passionate and dedicated to swimming for the majority of my life and that is why I hope to continue my swim career through college. I have tried out many sports, yet I never felt as comfortable with any of them as I did with competitive swimming. When I would play land sports such as basketball and soccer, I never felt like I was coordinated enough to keep up with the other kids, but when I was in the water I felt strong and confident, swim made me feel like I belonged. I hope to continue this through my collegiate career because I never want to deprive myself of the satisfaction of working myself as hard as I can to get better without having to rely on other teammates.
Although I do not feel the need to rely on teammates to help me, I am a great leader and I am comfortable if others rely on me. One of my greatest attributes is my lockerroom presence. I am the type of teammate to encourage others on the sideline and cheer them on while I get the rest of the team to cheer along with me. Although I am not loud and somewhat introverted in the outside world, when I am with my team I feel that all of my quietnesses melt away. There is something about a team presence that wakes me up like this. I am a hard worker and my practice habits are another one of my key attributes. I have been working on my out-of-water coordination through conditioning workouts and playing on my school's Ultimate Frisbee team. I feel that these have both benefited me in the water and on land.
Outside of athletics, I like to focus on myself and my well-being. In my free time, I like to play guitar and banjo, listen to music, play with my dog, hang out with my family, and occasionally learn about a new topic that fascinates me. In school, I enjoy Science and English subjects due to their quality of being based on free-thinking and judgment, this gives me more opportunity to make a topic personal to me. I currently pose a 3.5 unweighted GPA and I am leaning towards a school that offers a good pre-med or psychology program because those are the two subjects that I am most interested in pursuing as a career.
