Marthinus Marais '23 Recruiting Profile

I fell in love with tennis in second grade, in South Africa where I was born and lived until January 2020, when we immigrated to the US.  Tennis has been my constant sports companion for the past 12 years.  I played almost every day of the year, either with a coach, at 2 different clubs or in tournaments.  

I've always taken my academic work very seriously.  I can't help myself, if I do something, I have to do it 120%, otherwise I'm not satisfied.  I'll keep on working for hours to make sure that the assignment is as close to perfect as it can be.  This pertains to all aspects of my life, including tennis.  I always want to be a better player, learn more, perform better, move up.  As a recruit for a college tennis team, I would practice and learn and work as hard as a professional tennis player.  I would want to move up in the ranks, and I would encourage my teammates to do the same.  I want to be an excellent player!

I want to study business and entrepreneurship, as my goal is to start my own business(es).  I'm aspiring to have multiple businesses, both physically and online.  There are so many opportunities these days.  I would like to work for myself, and be able to give employment to other people, to be able to help others and make the world a better place.
