Aloha,
My name is Blane Baclig and I am a senior at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi, class of 2021. I grew up with Hawaiian as my first language and attended Ke Kula o Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, a Hawaiian immersion school on the Big Island, where I was first introduced to the game of volleyball in the 4th grade. I quickly fell in love with the sport, but didn't play again until my 8th grade year at Kamehameha Schools because I was playing baseball as well. I then decided to play baseball my freshman year and made the varsity team, but continued to play club volleyball. During my sophomore year of high school, I realized my passion for volleyball and decided to fully commit from then on. I was selected to be on the varsity team and became a starting outside hitter. We ended up becoming the conference champions where I was named an honorable mention. Since then, itʻs been my overall goal to take my skills to the next level and to play college ball.
Growing up in Hawaiʻi has taught me many Hawaiian values, such as aloha (love, caring, compassion), kuleana (responsibility), haʻahaʻa (humility), and hoʻomau (perseverance). Also, as a current high school student-athlete, I take pride in my work and do everything to the best of my ability. Iʻm great at working with others, and strive to be the best teammate and person that I can be. As I continue onto college, I intend to carry these traits and values with me in everything I do.
