Hello,
I’m Billy Wieberg a high school student, graduating in 2021 at Grand Island High School in New York. Ever since I was a young child, I have always been very good at athletics. I have played travel baseball, against kids 1 or 2 years older than me, tried my hand at football and played high-end, AAA hockey against some of the best competition in Western New York and around the country. However, once I stepped on the volleyball court as a 7th grader, I knew that I wanted to play more, and to the highest possible level of volleyball, my abilities would take me to.
As a starter on the 7th grade modified squad, I learned a lot. So much so, that I was asked to play up on the Grand Island JV squad as an 8th grader, where I became the starting outside hitter. From there, I moved to travel Volleyball where I learned the Middle Blocker position on the Lockport Volleyball Club’s 14u Black team, which went to Nationals last year. As a freshman, I was tagged as the starting outside hitter for Grand Island’s Varsity squad. Being only a freshman, I looked up to senior players for help and guidance, which helped me grow in skills and ready me to play up a year on the Lockport Volleyball Club’s 16u Black team.
As I move through high school, my work ethic and athletic abilities are constantly increased by learning from coaches who challenge me, while pushing myself, and playing against the highest competition I could. Personally, I think I would make a great addition to a team, as I have always worked very hard for everything on an off the court, always kept a positive attitude, and prided myself as a great teammate, no matter what the outcome of a match was.
For me volleyball isn’t just about the sport, it is a place where I learned life lessons from all of my coaches and teammates. My dream is to take those lessons learned from my coaches, apply them to volleyball in college, and succeed as a student-athlete. As of right now, I am undecided on what my major will be, but if my past history shows, I am going to work hard towards my goals, both on and off the court.
