My name is Takiah Cheathon and I am a 2-year varsity starter at Franklin High School. located in Reisterstown, Maryland. I played a combined guard who is known for my ability to score as well as shutting down my opponent. What I bring to any team is my work ethic. I refuse to quit. I keep going and I see mistakes as an opportunity to take my game to the next level. If you meet me, you will notice that I am quieter than most of my teammates, but I learned long ago to let my play do the speaking for me.
A coach suggested I share the story of 2 of my major challenges that some assumed should have stopped me, but remember, I refuse to give up. First, I had 2 shoulder surgeries in 2 years and only sat out a partial high school and a partial AAU season. Then there were the academic struggles. In November 2020, I finally received a diagnosis of ADHD- inattentive type, expressive language disorder, and developmental dyslexia. Imagine as a Junior in high school only just now receiving a 504 plan. One of the tutors my mom has working with me, is stunned that prior to virtual learning, I was successfully advancing through school with no special attention. This is the dedication that I know I can bring to any program. Again, I will not quit no matter what the obstacle. In the case of my academics, I had no idea why I had to work so hard, but I was going to do whatever was necessary to be successful.
I am writing because I intend to accomplish the highest academic and athletic success wherever I go to college and I want to see if you think I will be a match for your team. This summer and spring I will be playing AAU basketball for the Maryland Lady Assassins, 17u team and I will wear #24. I hope that you would be willing to look at me during my AAU season or possibly watch some game film.
