At a young age, my family would attend the local college sporting events. It was there that I fell in love with the action on the field and I was lucky enough to get to know some of the players. After hearing their experiences I decided I wanted to start playing sports. From playing as a three-sport athlete for years I grew not only as an athlete but as a person. I have learned how to work as a team and accept losses and use them as learning experiences.
Playing sports has also taught me that you never know what life will throw at you and just do your best. This is because locally there are very few girls in my age group who play the sports I play. Every year I have to constantly be on my toes to find a team. Because of this, I have played for teams with different goals. I have played for teams that focused solely on winning and I have played on teams that did their best and had fun no matter the outcome of the game.
Sports have also affected my life by allowing me to meet new people. These new friendships have introduced me to activism and social justice. On a personal level, I have been lucky enough to billet higher-level athletes from around the world who have played on local teams. These athletes have inspired me to work towards playing sports in college, explore new cultures, and start learning a new language.
Throughout my life, my family has inspired me to work hard in school. While in high school I hope to achieve the highest honor roll and mainly focus on engineering, math, and science. My hopes for college are to attend a school where I can experience new cultures, play on a collegiate-level team, and receive a good education to help me succeed in life.
