Hi! My name is Perry McLoughlin, and I'm 16 year old junior at Paul D. Schreiber High School located in Port Washington, New York. I am a coxswain for my town’s club rowing team, Friends of Port Rowing, in Port Washington, New York, coached by Isa Rahman. I joined this crew team as a 7th grader, and started out rowing. Although I loved rowing, my freshman year, I talked to my coach and decided it would be best for me to try coxing. I quickly adapted to this new role, learning from my coaches and older peers, to become a strong, productive leader and reliable teammate. I quickly became more serious and competitive with my other coxswains, and was able to take a u17 4+ to Youth Nationals 2021 last summer, as a sophomore. My boat continued into A/B finals and finished 11th. In addition, I was given the opportunity to take a u17 8+ to Summer Nationals 2021, my sophomore year, which finished in 12th. This previous fall, I coxed the Women’s Youth 4+ at the Head of the Charles, coming in 35th out of 84, and 7th in the under 17 category. With these amazing opportunities, I was able to learn more about each rower, and how they individually work to form one great boat. I was also able to improve on my own skills and ways of coxing to make my boat the most competitive it could be. Currently I am coxing my team’s 1V and 2V 8+'s , and varsity 4+’s. I am eager to continue coxing competitively past high school, and excited to start my college rowing journey.
