Sports have always been an important part of my life. Besides always pushing to be the best I can be, playing sports has been my approach to maintaining both my physical and mental health. My goal is to pursue an academically strong college program while contributing to the school’s rowing team. As someone who loves being around the water, I sought out activities that would maximize my time there. In 7th grade I participated in a learn-to-row program and fell in love with it right away. Since then, I have progressively become a strong competitor in lightweight sculling events on the single, double, and quad boats. My biggest motivation has always been showing, and proving I belong with the best. At 5’1” I am constantly disproving the misconception that rowers should be tall to be successful. There is nothing that motivates me more or makes me more proud than “surprisingly” winning races. In addition to my accomplishments in competitive racing, I have been recognized for my rowing technique and precision; to the extent that my coach relies on me to train new rowers in technique both on and off the water. Furthermore, as a trained and competitive martial artist, I have come to realize that the core principles reinforced in my martial arts training has contributed to my commitment, precision, discipline, and mental toughness in rowing. I am confident that my grit and determination will be an asset to the rowing team I join in college.
