Growing up I quickly fell in love with the game of soccer. I love to watch it on TV, compete in matches, and as of recently, teach the game to younger girls as a coach. I am lucky to have the opportunity to be the head coach of a U14 girls club team. I have become a role model to many of these girls I am coaching, on and off the field, and have developed great relationships through teaching the game. One of the players that I coach recently came to one of my games to watch me play. She ran up to me as soon as I left the locker room with a piece of paper and a pen, half-jokingly asking for my autograph. Now every time I see her she tells me how she has the autograph of "the next Alex Morgan" hanging in her room. Seeing these younger girls look up to me has instilled a sense of gratitude and responsibility in me to be the best athlete, student, and person that I can be. Having the role of head coach as a fifteen-year-old has sharpened my leadership skills, improved my responsibility, and helped me understand the game of soccer from a different perspective.
On the field one of my biggest strengths is versatility. I grew up playing center back and have now transitioned to a more central role and even sometimes play forward. I also have legitimate training and experience as a goalkeeper. I even had to strap on some gloves and play keeper for a pk shootout in an eighth-grade playoff game, saving all but one shot and netting my own. My technical ability on the ball allows me to be creative and evasive in the midfield. My size (5'9") allows me to be dominant in the air. I have a very good understanding of the game and am able to process patterns and anticipate ball movement.
All my life it has been important that I be well rounded. While I boast many athletic achievements and abilities I am also highly focused on academics. I am currently first in my class with a weighted GPA of 4.54. I am proud to say that I have never made below an A in my academic career as it has taken a lot of hard work and late nights balancing soccer and school.
