I've even swimming for a total of eight or so years, but I only ever count the last three to four years. Some may say that I only count the last few years because I’ve improved significantly. Although this is true, the reason why I only count the last years is because I’ve felt more alive in the pool, I put more effort and energy into the water, and started journaling about practices and my diet to improve my technique and health habits. If someone asked for a specific date I could flip to a page in my “athletic log” and tell them exactly what I did in practice and my goals for that day. Journaling sounds silly to some people, but checking goals off my daily, monthly, and even yearly is a satisfaction to life, it make me feel motivational and inspirational to others. These goals are not just health and sport related there also academic goals which motivate me to keep up my grade.
Yes goals are important but that doesn’t always predict how the day is going to go, let’s just say people have good and bad days, but in my world that no excuse not to do your best, if you do your best it motivates others and keeps negative thoughts away.
Exercise specifically swimming is something I look forward to everyday, it’s a happy place where I can leave everything behind and just focus on one thing and that swimming.
