My name is Dylin Duggan and I am a runner! I currently attend Goshen Central High School located in Goshen New York. I’m a strong student and have great passion for my studies. College is truly a future goal of mine. I’m looking forward to studying engineering and being part of a great XC and track team.
From the time I was born my parents always knew I was going to be a runner. Growing up in a sports orientated family I had to figure something out quick. I was a very shy and timid child that didn’t have much sense of confidence. This is where I owe everything to my parents. They enrolled me in everything they possible could. There was dance classes, gymnastics, T-ball, soccer, cheerleading and finally lacrosse. Yes, this was all by the age of 8 years old. LOL! I continued to cheer in the fall for the better part of 8 years while I played lacrosse in the spring. Both sports truly gave me a sense of security, team bonding, leadership and most importantly, confidence. I had to work through many challenges during those years. Continued practice at home, off season workouts and just remembering how hard I worked helped me to achieve success. While doing all of those things my family loved to run local 5k races. My parents were avid runners and little did I know they were slowly grooming me for what I truly love the most, running.
I ran my first 5k race when I was 5 years old. I can still remember that race like it was yesterday. I never thought I was going to make it but my mom, who stayed with me, talked to me and distracted me by playing running games the whole way. Before I knew it I was coming through the finish line where my dad and brother congratulated me with open arms. As my dad put that first medal around my neck, I knew I loved that feeling. Every year after that we continued to have fun entering several 5K races. With every race I became more confident, less nervous and more excited. Little did I know there was a hidden purpose in entering me in those 5k’s while I continued my career in lacrosse.
Today I am part of Goshen’s XC, indoor track and lacrosse teams as well as Yellow Jackets travel lacrosse. I currently have a 4.0 average and I will continue to work hard to graduate with the same GPA. Through hardwork, dedication and perseverance I was able to be part of back to back Division Championships in 2021 and 2022. We clinched the Section IX Championship in 2021 that brought me to my greatest accomplishment, states. This is were my confidence grew the most. I knew I deserved to be there. I’m a very coachable runner who is dedicated to this sport. I can’t wait to find the appropriate college and a coach who believes in me.
