Personal Statement

My name is Sophia DeBellas and throughout my life, I have been passionate, dedicated, and have always strived for greatness. When I first began track in middle school, I knew that this would be something I would want to do for the rest of my life. It made me feel free, content, and elated and whether I ran by myself or with my teammates, I always enjoyed it.  In 8th grade, I also joined a CYO team so I could continue running at a higher level and loved that also but high school is where I truly found that I am not me without running. Although so much change has taken place in accordance with what I am running ( I came in as a sprinter and am now a distance and mid-distance runner) this sport means everything and more to me and I love trying new events and cheering on all my friends.  As of now, my main events are the 1500m (5:20), 800m (2:35) and 3000m and during cross country (running a 2.5) I PRed in every race I ran and my best time was 16:38.

In addition to my running, my academics also mean a lot to me. I am very determined to do well, be successful, and do my very best. I am at the top of my class in the Science Institute at my school which is a very rigorous program and I try to take as many AP courses as I am offered. Every marking period of high school, I managed to have higher than a 103 average while also being an active member of school activities and of course the track team. I participate in events and activities outside my school or for my school and am an active member of many clubs and even started my own.I strongly believe that in order to achieve your goals you must work hard and believe in yourself or else they can never become a reality. I am truly blessed to be able to run and hope I can pursue this activity I love in college.
